Alzheimer type II astrocytes (arrows) are typically found in cerebral hemispheres and basal ganglia in patients with liver failure and hyperammonemia. Nuclei are enlarged and demonstrate little cytoplasm, earning the name "naked nuclei gliosis".(H&E)
