Some cases have a combination of hypoxia/ischemia and superimposed etat glace. In the case illustrated there is marked apparent loss of granule cells; however, the shrunken folia and expanded sulci (arrows) are not typical for etat glace but suggest actual loss of granule cell neurons. (H&E)
