The same field as image #3A1 stained for tissue iron shows formalin pigment (blue arrow) adjacent to a focus of petechial hemorrhage. The formalin pigment does not stain blue for iron. The red arrow marks neurons more distant from the hemorrhage which do not show any pigment with or without iron (Iron histochemical stain).
