Washington University Experience | BASIC PROCESSES | Astrocytes & Astrocytosis | Astrocytes, Radial Glia | 1A1 Astrocytes, radial glia (Case 1) GFAP 1
This case was of a full term fetus who lived one day. ---- The processes of radial glial cells provide a scaffold for migrating cells, both glia and neurons. The cerebellar Bergmann astrocytes in the Purkinje cell layer provide processes which project to the pial surface and may be seen in adult and developing cerebella. Immature cells from the fetal layer of Obersteiner can be seen migrating along their processes in this image (GFAP IHC)
