Washington University Experience | BASIC PROCESSES | Central Chromatolysis | 1A1 Neuron, chromatolysis, anterior horn 1
Chromatolytic neurons (arrow) develop in certain sites in response to axonal injury/degeneration. Typically neurons projecting out of the CNS (spinal cord anterior horn, cranial motor nerves) or located in the PNS (DRG, autonomic ganglia) develop this change as a prerequisite to initiating axonal regeneration.
