Corpora amylacea are polymers of glucose (polyglucosans) which normally develop in the processes of astrocytes, increasing with age and often in a chronic response to tissue damage. They typically align adjacent to the pia in the glia limitans layer, as in the case shown, and have a blue-purple appearance with H&E stain (although they may be pale). (H&E)
