18C Ependymal Fusion Seam, occipital lobe (Case 1) 3
I propose that during embryologic development the normal occipital ventricle fuses part of the ependymal lining to form a seam as shown in this image (arrow, image 2 in this section of the atlas). In this case the seam has failed to fuse and developed into the ependyma lined cyst. It continues to show the unusual microvasculature similar to the normal fused seam, although apparently the vessels are much larger. (H&E)
