The decedent was a 60-year-old woman with a past medical history of poorly-controlled diabetes, poorly-controlled hypertension, hyperlipidemia, paroxysmal atrial fibrillation with rapid ventricular response and a 46 year history of cigarette smoking who suffered a series of embolic infarcts and died. Low magnification image of the gracile nuclei in this patient show large numbers of very large, eosinophilic dystrophic axons. (H&E)
