The osmiophilic material in this dystrophic axon is seen at several magnifications. The densities may be composed of aggregates of coated material surrounding tubulovesicular/synaptic vesicles (just a speculation) and resemble the ultrastructural appearance of the dense osmiophilic material composing the core of Rosenthal fibers (arrow, 27JC) which might react with antisera against heat shock or crystallins.
