Washington University Experience | BASIC PROCESSES | Neuronophagia | 9 Microglia, early neuronophagia (Case 9) H&E 3A
The decedent in this case was a 21-month-old boy with a history of X-linked chronic granulomatous disease, complicated by hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis. He was status post matched unrelated donor stem cell transplant with graft loss and subsequent reinfusion, complicated by graft versus host disease of the skin. Does the clustering of individual microglial rod cells adjacent to histologically unremarkable appearing cortical neurons in this complex case represent early neuronophagia? (H&E)
