Case 10 History This 71 year old man died of a (presumed) myocardial arrhythmia. The patient had an anterior cervical discectomy and C3-C5 fusion about a week before his death. No complications were reported after surgery; however, his respiratory complications kept him mostly bedbound in intensive care thereafter until his death.---- 10A1-3 Multiple levels of the spinal cord are shown stained routinely (H&E, 10A1), for myelin (10A2, LFB-PAS) and for axons (10A3, NF IHC). There is lateral corticospinal tract pallor involving the cord (arrowheads) that, it will be shown, corresponds to areas of myelin and axon loss.
