Case 11 History: First resection ---- The patient is a 19 year old girl with a prepontine cystic lesion. Clinical diagnosis: Rule out arachnoid cyst. Operative procedure: Craniotomy for tumor excision. No radiologic studies are available for this patient’s first surgery. ---- 11A1,2 Sections of the brain biopsy show fragments of a collapsed cyst with bland, cuboidal to columnar epithelial lining, stratified in some areas and surrounded by collagen or in other areas by gliotic parenchyma with scattered Rosenthal fibers. No keratin formation is seen and there are no obvious goblet cells. The differential diagnosis included a glioependymal cyst, neurenteric cyst, and arachnoidal cyst. (H&E),
