7A1 Encephalocele (Case 7) H&E whole mount 1A
Case 7 History (S12-11857) ---- The patient is a 5-day-old male with antenatally diagnosed enlarged ventricles raising the possibility of communicating hydrocephalus. After delivery there were two lesions on the scalp. MRI showed a small flow void through one of the lesions and fluid filling in the other. An encephalocele was suspected. Operative procedure. Encephalocele repair. ---- 7A1-4 Sections of both the "inferior" and "superior" occipital lesions show hair bearing skin with foci of ectopic neural tissue with an associated complex vascular network particularly evident. (H&E)
