1A1 Aplasia, Granule Cell (Case 1) H&E whole mount 2
Granule cell aplasia results in loss of cerebellar granule cells producing marked cerebellar atrophy. Its cause is unknown but some of the reported cases appear to have a familial component. ---- In this example of granule cell aplasia there is a mild loss in neurons of the basis pontis. However, the cerebellar folia are pale and shrunken involving both the vermis and hemispheres (H&E).
