The patient is a 7 year old boy with a history of two prior surgeries for intractable seizures, returning again for continuing seizures. The pathologic process is focal cortical dysplasia (type IIb). ---- Sections of the resected cortex and underlying white matter show a jumble of large neuroglial elements (H&E) seen at higher magnification in image 4B.
