This neonate, born after 35 weeks of gestation, had a variety of chromosomal abnormalities and systemic malformations. This section of the basal ganglia and insular cortex demonstrates multiple leptomeningeal heterotopias (blue arrows) and underlying parenchymal neuronal malformation (red arrow), seen at higher magnification in subsequent images. The arrowheads mark an unidentified cell population.
