Washington University Experience | DEVELOPMENTAL MALFORMATIONS | Hydranencephaly | 6A1 Hydranencephaly (Case 6) A1
Case 6 -This is the brain of a one day old neonate of a 27 week EGA pregnancy. ---- This specimen is shown initially with meningeal structures intact (image #6A1) or removed (image #6A2) revealing only a single fragment (arrow, #6A2) of the cerebral cortex/deep gray nuclei remains attached to the brainstem. The cerebellum and spinal cord are preserved (Again, the yellow color reflects the use of Bouin's fixative and the result of my misguided attempt to harden a neonatal brain).
