The ventral appearance of the brainstem shows abnormal contours with a decrease in the size and shape of the pons. The normal bulge of the inferior olivary nucleus (ION) is absent. A profile view of the brainstem confirms the diminished size of the pons, loss in the cerebellar peduncles and decrease in size of the ION.
