1A0 Case 1 History
Case 1 ---- The patient was a 14-year-old boy who developed headaches with dizziness, malaise and neck pain. MRI showed approximately 20 small intracerebral enhancing lesions suspicious for abscesses. A rim-enhancing multiloculated fluid collection in the posterior mediastinum was also concerning for abscess and possible source for the cerebral infection. Culture of aspirated material from brain lesions was negative, although he had already received several days of broad spectrum antibiotics, but there were gram positive cocci in pairs on gram stain of aspirated fluid.
