12A0 Case 12 History
Case 12 History ---- 12A-G The patient was an 14 year old female with a history of mental retardation, seizure disorder, ADHD, pneumonia, throat streptococcal infection, and frequent episodes of otitis media. She experienced an episode of otitis media 2 months prior to admission; 1 month later, she developed headache, abdominal pain, and shaking spells. A head CT scan at that time showed multiple ring-enhancing lesions, consistent with abscesses, likely from a dental or otitic origin. MRI also revealed possible superior sagittal sinus thrombosis and right thalamic infarction. She worsened clinically and MRI showed progressive infarction, involving the entire right hemisphere, and superior sagittal sinus thrombosis, diffuse vascular disease and no hydrocephalus. On 7/10/02, both pupils became nonreactive. Support was withdrawn and she died.
