Case 16 History ---- The decedent was a 37 year old male with past medical history of L4-5 compression fracture and kidney stones who presented as a transfer from an OSH with intracranial lesions and vasogenic edema. The patient had been having intermittent fevers with associated malaise, chills, and body aches that began shortly prior to admission. He rapidly progressed to markedly increased intracranial pressure and a right decompressive hemicraniectomy was performed. A biopsy of one lesion showed neutrophilic abscess with cocci in chains. He died one month after admission. Culture of the biopsied lesion showed Streptococcus intermedius.
