Case 2 History ---- The patient was a 2 month old infant born at an estimated age of 28 weeks of gestation who rapidly developed respiratory distress and a CNS infection in the presence of generalized sepsis. The infant developed ventriculomegaly and evidence of profound destructive CNS infection which, although treated extensively and aggressively, led to his death. At the time of death the patient had developed hydrocephalus, ventriculitis, leptomeningitis, interference with CSF drainage from the IV ventricle and superimposed cerebritis/infarction.
