Case 17 History ---- The patient was a two month old male infant born at 38 weeks gestation with a history of pulmonary atresia and S/P Blalock-Taussig shunt on the 3rd day of life who was discharged at one month of age and re-presented to SLCH on 5/5 with a two day history of fever, irritability, high pitched cry and seizure activity on the right side. A CSF tap showed 5,000 total cells with 90% white cells, glucose <20 and protein of 252. Gram stain showed 3+ polymorphonuclear leukocytes and 3+ gram positive cocci in pairs. Despite maximum ventilatory and cardiac support, the patient's blood pressure could not be maintained and he was pronounced dead.
