18A0 Case 18 History
Cas 18 History ---- The patient was a 33 year old male with a history of alcohol abuse who was transferred for management of pneumococcal sepsis. The patient became confused and had four generalized tonic-colonic seizures. The patient was unresponsive in the ICU. An LP showed purulent cerebrospinal fluid with 1200 white blood cells, a protein of 370 and glucose of 2 and a positive Streptococcal latex agglutination test. A chest X-ray showed right upper and left upper lobe infiltrates. The decision was made by the clinicians and the patient's family to withdraw ventilatory support.
