Case 7 History ---- This 16 month old male developed fever and vomiting moderate generalized edema and a multifocal erythematous appearing rash and skin petechiae. In the ER he was noted to be mottled, with peripheral cyanosis and irritability which progressed to unresponsiveness with fixed pupils. There were no pupillary, corneal, oculovestibular, cough or gag reflexes. A head CT scan showed diffuse cerebral edema. The patient subsequently died. Brain tissue was cultured postmortem and grew Streptococcus pneumoniae.
