Gross examination of the lateral hemisphere demonstrates collapse of the dilated ventricles following postmortem loss of CSF. The cortex appears to have too many small gyri (pseudopolymicrogyria, arrows) commonly observed in hydrocephalus as well as the apparent loss of gyri in the mesial aspect, now part of the apparently superolateral component.
