Case 3 History ---- This patient was a 62 year old male coal miner with ethanol abuse who had lung infiltrates with hilar eggshell calcifications. The patient developed multiple cerebral infarcts, typically at the base of the brain including gyrus rectus and hypothalamus. Large numbers of AFB were found at the base of the brain; however, slides/blocks have been lost.
