Case 1 History ---- A case of true cryptococcal mycotic aneurysms and hemorrhages. The patient was a 69 year old man with past medical history significant for ulcerative colitis for which he was treated with prednisone and 6-mercaptopurine. He developed cryptococcal meningitis, and was admitted for over a month to the hospital. Deep vein thrombosis was treated with anticoagulation. He also developed decreased mental status, left hemiparesis, aphasia and fungemia. He was readmitted after he was found unresponsive at an extended care facility with a fever of 39oC. There was no evidence of brainstem activity, except spontaneous respirations above the ventilator. Head CT scan showed multiple parenchymal hematomas, right thalamic hemorrhage with rupture into third and fourth ventricles with obstructive hydrocephalus. The patient did not survive.
