1B1-3 The gross pathology in this case is shown in several views. A view from the ventral aspect (#1B1) is largely unremarkable with the exception of a small amount of granularity (arrows). Coronal sections show the striking pattern of hemorrhagic necrosis involving the right basal ganglia with some extension on the left which is more typical in IV drug abusers (1B2,3).
