Washington University Experience | INFECTION | Protozoa | Toxoplasmosis | 16C3 Toxoplasmosis (Case 16) Toxo 40X 2
The same vessel shown as image #16B4 has been stained for Toxoplasma. Necrotic vessels may be a prominent part of Toxoplasma infection. ---- Not shown: GMS stain is negative for fungal microorganisms. CD68 highlights numerous macrophages. ---- Comment: The overall histomorphology and immunohistochemistry is consistent with a toxoplasma abscess. Before use of Toxoplasma immunolocalization techniques it was often difficult to separate the organism from nuclear debris (the latter which tended to be more angular than round).
