Case 1 History ---- The patient was a 43 year old man with HIV, manifested by CMV retinitis and cryptococcal meningitis. ---- The ventral aspect of the brain has a slight mucinous look, particularly the orbital portion of the frontal lobe and cerebellum (arrows) which is most consistent with cryptococcal meningitis. Many HIV cases exhibit complex patterns of infection.
