Case 1 History ---- The patient was a 58 year old HIV-positive man with deteriorating mental status. His past medical history included complications with oral and esophageal candidiasis, HIV-related dementia and CMV viremia. Within the last two months he has had progressive neurological deterioration. MRI of the brain revealed multiple CNS lesions involving the cerebral peduncles, pons, periventricular and deep white matter.
