1A0 Case 1 History
Case 1 History ---- The patient, a 28 year-old male with a history of HIV (CD4=0 at the time of his hospitalization), hemophilia, hepatitis type B with e-antigen and cirrhosis, was admitted for mental status changes attributed to HIV encephalopathy. Imaging studies showed cerebral atrophy and periventricular white matter changes. The patient complained of difficulty in concentrating. Myoclonic jerks developed in the upper extremities in the presence of upgoing toes. Over the course of the next day he became more acidotic and unresponsive to pressors and support was withdrawn.
