2A0 Case 2 History
Case 2 History ---- This was a 36 year old man with a history of HIV infection who had developed MAI and cryptosporidium GI infection, candida stomatitis and CMV retinitis. During his final admission he developed bacterial infections: enterococcus (urinary), streptococcus and staphylococcus (pulmonary) and pneumocystis carinii pneumonitis. He developed additional terminal neurologic symptoms (incoordination, increased lethargy, hypotonicity, and dilated right pupil). MRI showed pathologic enhancement of the cortical hemispheric white matter clinically thought suggestive of PML or toxoplasmosis. Marked neurologic deterioration continued and the patient died.
