1A0 Case 1 History
Case 1 History ---- The patient was a 71 year old man who had the sudden onset of olfactory hallucination (odor of cinnamon), confusion, low-grade fever, headache and nausea. His condition worsened to near coma; however, all brainstem reflexes remained intact and he had purposeful withdrawal of all four extremities. HSV-I PCR was positive and, despite continued efforts and Acyclovir treatment, he developed high fever, hypotension, and hypoxia and expired within a short time.
