Case 8 History ---- The patient was a 65 year old man with no past significant history. He presented in an acute confusional state that progressed to coma over 24 hours with seizures and brain swelling. He responded to Acyclovir, recovering speech and awareness, although minimally. Two weeks after onset of Acyclovir treatment he presented with fever and deep vein clots. He died suddenly from a massive pulmonary embolism.
