1C2-5 Immunohistochemistry for HSV-2 did, however, demonstrate microscopic patches of involvement in the cerebellum (arrows), typically in the Purkinje cell layer (also see images #1C3-5) involving both neurons and glia. Even with these hints at location, H&E stained material remained minimally informative and the lesions would have been missed using H&E staining alone. (HSV-2 IHC)
