A low magnification image clarifies the perivenous distribution of inflammatory cells and myelin loss, reminiscent of acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM) which may exist without JC virus remaining in the lesion. The presence of hemorrhages suggests possible acute hemorrhagic leukoencephalitis, although vasculitic change in the vessels are not identified. (AANP Diagnostic Slide Session 1997, Case 5)
