2A3,4 One of these pale foci is shown at 10X and 20X magnification stained sequentially with a variety of stains, in this case H&E. Myelinated white matter is typically eosinophilic and pallor often accompanies demyelination. There are scattered enlarged, virally infected oligodendrocytes which commonly cluster at the active edges of lesions.
