2A1 PML (Case 2) EM 003 copy - Copy
Case 2 History This cell is difficult for me to classify. I do not think this is an astrocyte since it lacks filaments. It is not a normal neuron but the sprouts (arrows) are reminiscent of axonal sprouts; nonetheless, they appear to contain ribosomes (arrowheads, 2A3) and to proceed from the soma which would be unusual for axonal sprouts (possible dendritic sprouts?). I think these may possibly be abnormal oligodendrocytes with somal sprouts, since many oligodendrocytes normally have a large number of branches to multiple different axons. (Electron Micrograph)
