Case 12 History ---- This 48 hour old full term infant, the product of a normal pregnancy, was admitted to SLCH extremely jaundiced and dyspneic resulting from erythroblastosis fetalis (Rh incompatibility). Jaundice was noted during the first 24 hours after birth. Total bilirubin in the blood was 17.0 mg (direct of 9.0 mg). E. coli was grown from the blood but CSF was negative.
At autopsy there was kernicterus which involved the cerebellar flocculus and dentate nuclei, inferior olives, hippocampal gyri, basal ganglia and cranial nerve nuclei,
