At autopsy the cerebral hemispheres are markedly distorted and covered by thin, opaque, congested leptomeninges. There is bilateral patchy yellow discoloration without any other abnormality of the diencephalon and the basal ganglia, bilaterally. ---- The leptomeninges are diffusely involved by a densely cellular infiltrate of polymorphonuclear and mononuclear cells with numerous gram positive cocci
