Case 7 No History ---- In many of these cases there is little described microscopic pathology, some of which may reflect loss of deposited intra-neuronal bilirubin pigment with processing or over the passage of time. In the case number 7 shown here we have a case of bilirubin encephalopathy particularly involving the inferior olivary nuclei. There is neuron loss and astrocytosis and an unusual granular perikaryal neuronal eosinophilia (arrow, 7A3). Is this a finding representing selective distinctive histopathology of kernicterus?
