2C1,2 The distribution and histopathology of vasculonecrotic lesions in Leigh’s disease has often been compared to those of Wernicke’s encephalopathy with the exception that the mammillary bodies are unaffected in Leigh’s disease and that lesions lack hemosiderin. These are low and high magnification images of the one mammillary body in this case which show no pallor, astrocytosis or increased vasculature (H&E)
