Case 2 History ---- This patient was an eight year old boy with congenital extrahepatic biliary atresia. The patient had been maintained as an outpatient on parenteral vitamins E, D, K and calciferol; however, he continued to experience easy bruising and rachitic bony changes. His neurologic symptoms included truncal and limb ataxia, wide-based gait, decreased deep tendon reflexes and vibratory sensation in his lower extremities, proximal weakness and extraocular motility abnormalities. He aspirated at home and died before reaching the ER.
