Case 15 History ---- This 42 year old woman developed an apneic episode and subsequently became comatose. Upon awakening she developed paroxysmal coughing spells with associated apnea and loss of consciousness. The patient received a tracheostomy and was weaned without much difficulty; however, she was found apneic with fixed and dilated pupils, was resuscitated but was neurologically devastated. She was maintained at a nursing home for an additional 6 months without recovery until her death.
