1A1-5 H&E stained sections of the left quadriceps femoris biopsy material show numerous moderate sized blood vessels with prominent mural calcifications. Otherwise, the striated muscle fibers show mild findings including mild fiber size variation, presence of angulated atrophic fibers, some grouped, and frequent pyknotic nuclear clumps. There was no evidence of inflammation, vasculitis, necrosis, macrophage infiltration, regenerative features, or perifascicular atrophy. (H&E)
