Washington University Experience | MISCELLANEOUS | Gossypiboma, Textiloma & Neurosurgical Foreign Material | 1A0 Case 1 - History
Case 1 History ---- The patient was a 65-year-old woman with a remote history of vestibular schwannoma for which she received cranial irradiation. Years later she was found to have a right parasagittal and olfactory groove meningioma which was resected in 2010 and a bovine dural substitute used in the repair. In 2011 she underwent resection of a dural based mass in the region of her prior meningioma which showed no tumor, only an exuberant mixed inflammatory response to polarizable foreign material. The mass reoccurred 5 years later and showed the same inflammatory histopathology, again in the absence of neoplasm.
