Case 5 History ---- The patient was a 62 year old woman with a history of Type 2 diabetes diagnosed 15 years ago, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, degenerative joint disease, reflux, anemia and anxiety disorder with depression. The patient also has a history of lumbar diskitis and osteomyelitis with epidural abscess for which she was hospitalized two years prior to death. Biopsy of the lumbar lesion showed osteomyelitis but no organisms. The patient was treated empirically with ciprofloxacin and vancomycin.
