2E2 Wolfram Syndrome (Case 2) _7
2E2,3 The dissected brainstem viewed from the dorsal (2E2) and ventral (2E3) surfaces. The inferior olivary nuclei appear somewhat atrophic. Transverse sections of the brainstem show a small midbrain, pons, and medulla with a reduction in both the anterior-to-posterior and left-to-right dimensions. The 4th ventricle is expanded which may reflect loss of fibers of the superior cerebellar peduncle. The ventricle is lined by smooth, glistening ependyma. The substantia nigra and loci cerulei are normally pigmented.
